Town of Colonial Beach Announces Two Key Police Department
Appointments: Les Parsons as Interim Chief of Police and Nathan Thompson as Interim Lieutenant
COLONIAL BEACH, VA, November 17, 2023 — This morning, the Town of Colonial Beach is very proud to announce the appointment of Les Parsons as its Interim Chief of Police, as well as the appointment of Nathan Thompson as Interim Lieutenant.
Interim Police Chief Les Parsons
With more than 23 years of experience and expertise in law enforcement, Interim Chief Les Parsons began his sworn police service as a police officer in Southern California in 1999, where he served as patrol and detective, as well as in community policing bureaus coordinating and managing community programs such as: Police
Explorers, Neighborhood Watch, RACES (Emergency Communications), and the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). In addition, he taught the Police Interaction with Youth (PIY) program in local schools.
In 2014, Parsons moved across the country to join the Colonial Beach Police Department, where he has spent the past ten years working as a patrol officer, patrol sergeant, and patrol lieutenant. As a lieutenant, Parsons has directed patrol operations, managed critical incidents, and supervised patrol personnel. While a member of the Colonial Beach Police Department, Parsons has successfully completed several leadership schools, including the FBI-Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) Leadership Trilogy Series, which included Supervisory, Command, and Executive leadership training – making him the perfect choice as our next Interim Police Chief.
Parsons is committed to community policing. Through the years, he has partnered with local faith organizations on a Christmas Toy Drive and participated with local businesses on “Operation Christmas Cheer.” Parsons has also developed and managed CBVA’s Neighborhood Watch Program and the Police Explorer Program for local youth.
As Interim Chief, Parsons pledges to continue to work diligently to grow and strengthen the partnership between the Police Department and the Colonial Beach community.
Interim Police Chief Parsons graduated from the University of Utah with a BS in Political Science and a Certificate in International Relations. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Puget Sound’s School of Law, passed the Washington State Bar, and practiced as an attorney for over ten years. His legal career extended to his service as a Prosecutor and as the Legal Advisor to the Tacoma Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit.
Interim Lieutenant Nathan Thompson
The Town of Colonial Beach is equally excited to announce the appointment of Nathan Thompson to
Interim Lieutenant for the Colonial Beach Police Department. Thompson has been with the department for nearly two years in several capacities and is returning after a brief, self-initiated leave of absence to assume this new role. With twelve years of Law Enforcement Administration, he brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our town and the Police Department. In his time with the department thus far, Thompson has been recognized for his positive community engagements and dedication to making our town a safe place to live and visit.
