Town of Colonial Beach Receives Virginia Tourism Corporation Grant 

for Creation of a Street Art/Mural Trail to Spur


Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Virginia Tourism Corporation (VTC) awarded more than $2.7 million for 259 local and regional tourism marketing programs across the state to help increase visitation and revenue for Virginia’s localities through tourism.


Town of Colonial Beach, Virginia (CBVA) received a $5,000 grant for developing a street art and mural trail. CBVA partnered with Colonial Beach Artists Guild, Artists Alliance of Colonial Beach, Riverview Inn, Chesapeake Bay Wine Trail, the Town of Irvington, and Northern Neck Tourism to supply $47,074 in matching funds for the project. CBVA is rich with art culture, including more than a dozen wall murals throughout the town, the majority of which were created by internationally known studio We Talk Chalk. Monthly art walks, combined with Sip & Stroll, a component of Virginia ABC’s DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Areainitiativeshowcase the works of local and regional artists at various locations downtown. Further, CBVA presently has three LOVEworks with several more in the planning stage.


"I have a personal interest in the development of a street art and mural trail. My catalyst into Colonial Beach community organization began when I designed the 72’ mural on the boardwalk painted by the Colonial Beach Artist Guild,” revealed Mayor Robin Schick. “Sharing our vibrant art scene with visitors is very exciting.”


"A street art/mural trail is an excellent way to promote our golf cart community--there’s no better way to view the art,” believes India Adams-Jacobs, Town Manager. "We appreciate VTC’s financial assistance which allows us to highlight this Town asset."


“These grant funds provide an important opportunity for communities across the Commonwealth to accelerate recovery efforts and continue with their best-in-class marketing initiatives to attract new travelers,” said Rita McClenny, president and CEO of Virginia Tourism. “Increased visitation translates directly into revenue generation, underscoring tourism’s important role in stimulating economic growth and expansion”

The VTC Marketing Leverage Program is designed to increase visitor spending by leveraging limited marketing dollars, stimulating new tourism marketing through partnerships, and extending the “Virginia is for Lovers” brand. A minimum of three Virginia entities must partner financially to apply for a grant. Partners may consist of Virginia cities, towns, counties, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, other local or regional destination marketing organizations, private businesses, museums, attractions, cultural events, and other tourism-related businesses.
