| From the Town Manager: As we head into November, I want to thank everyone for your continued partnership and engagement. This month we observe Election Day, Veterans Day, and Thanksgiving. As a proud Army veteran, I want to extend heartfelt appreciation to all who have served, and to their families for the sacrifices they’ve made for our great nation.
Public Works is hard at work preparing for the winter season, with leaf collection, stormwater inlet cleaning, and roadway readiness already underway. You can help by keeping gutters and curb lines clear and by reporting any issues through our service request portal.
We’re also advancing key Capital Improvement Projects and finalizing year-end budget work to position the Town for a strong start to the new year. Your feedback matters greatly, and I encourage you to attend upcoming meetings, sign up for Town notifications, and share your ideas.
Wishing you and your families a safe, joyful, and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving!
— Natasha Tucker, MBA/JD Town Manager |

| From the Assistant Town Manager:
November is always a busy and productive month for our team as we prepare the Town for the winter season and wrap up several major initiatives before year’s end. Across departments, staff are working hard to keep projects on schedule, address maintenance needs, and deliver reliable service to residents.
Public Works has begun seasonal cleanup and storm preparation, ensuring equipment, inlets, and roadways are ready for colder weather. Our Finance and Planning teams are working on key components of the budget and Capital Improvement Plan, both of which will guide next year’s infrastructure and community priorities.
I’m grateful for the professionalism and teamwork across all departments. I’m equally grateful for the continued cooperation we receive from residents who take pride in keeping Colonial Beach moving forward.
Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and enjoyable Thanksgiving holiday.
Kyler Brower, MPA Assistant Town Manager |

| Yard Debris Pick-up
The next yard debris
pick-up week will be Monday, November 10 through Friday, November 14 on your trash pick up day.
Help Keep Our Drainage Ditches Clean and Clear!
Yard waste like leaves, twigs, and grass clippings might seem harmless—but when left unmanaged, they can block drainage ditches and contribute to serious water issues in our community.
Drainage ditches are an essential part of our stormwater system. They collect and carry rainwater away from roads, driveways, and yards, helping to prevent floods and water damage. But when these ditches are clogged with debris, water backs up causing localized flooding.
Here’s how you can make a difference: Leave the leaves. Shred fallen leaves using a mulching mower to create natural fertilizer for your lawn. This reduces waste and keeps your soil healthy.
Be smart about bagging. Use paper yard bags for leaves, grass clippings and other yard debris for collection on yard debris pick up days.
Keep ditches obstruction-free. Never blow, rake, or dump leaves into ditches. Burning leaves near these areas is also a fire hazard and should be avoided.
Secure your stuff. Strong winds can carry toys, tools, and containers into drainage channels. Be sure to store outdoor items safely, especially before storms.
Use what the rain gives you. Rain barrels and redirected downspouts help reduce runoff while watering your plants naturally.
Scoop the poop. Pet waste left on the ground can wash into ditches and pollute our waterways with harmful bacteria. Always clean up after your pets.
One Rule to Remember If it’s not RAIN, it doesn’t belong in the DITCH! |

| The Wonders of Walking for Wellness Walking does more than help us get from one place to another. It also helps keep us healthy — physically and mentally. Two of the best benefits of walking for fitness are that you don’t need to be athletic, and it’s free. All you need are comfortable clothes and sneakers.
Getting started Aim for 150 minutes of exercise a week. Start with 10–15 minutes once or twice a day, then slowly increase your time and distance. Staying motivated. The beauty of walking is that there are so many ways and places you can do it. You can follow the same routine every day or mix it up. To keep boredom at bay: • Chat on the phone. • Listen to a podcast or audiobook. • Look for trees, flowers, or animals along the way. • Meet up with a friend. • Savor the silence. • Snap photos and post what you see on social media. • Try going in the opposite direction. • Vary your pace, from medium to brisk. |

| Light Up the Night
The Town's Economic Development Office and Downtown Colonial Beach (DCB) are working together to "Light Up the Night" this holiday season! This event is inspired by past CB Holiday lights displays as well as communities across the country. St. Augustine, FL, has been an inspiring example in illuminating their commercial district. DCB has purchased similar battery-operated luminarias to share with business owners as part of this project.
The Colonial Beach Community Foundation provided a generous grant to DCB to help purchase the luminarias. Krista Brown is leading the effort for DCB and recently sent a letter to all businesses within the designated Main Street District asking for their interest in having "Light Up the Night" luminaria, and by adding "white twinkly lights" to their holiday decor. Of note, the Osprey Festival suggests using yellow-toned white LED holiday lights rather than the brighter blue-toned white LED holiday lights since the yellow-toned lights do not pose a threat to our community's important bird population by interrupting their flight patterns as do the blue-toned white lights.
"Light Up the Night" joins the other Town holiday decorating efforts provided by Bob and Jan Swink and Merry Robertson on Town Hill, as well as the Town’s Public Works Department along our main corridors. If you would like to know more about how you can participate with "Light Up the Night" during the holidays, contact Krista Brown at kaj255@msn.com.
