Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Public Works in Colonial Beach is to enhance the quality of life for residents through the safe and efficient planning, design, construction, and maintenance of infrastructure. We are committed to aligning our efforts with the Town’s comprehensive and revitalization plans. Our goal is to utilize the best management practices and technology to deliver effective services at the lowest cost. By doing so, we aim to support the health and well-being of both our citizens and visitors through daily services that contribute to a thriving community.
DEQ Enforcement Action - Order by Consent
The Town of Colonial Beach has been issued Notices of Violation by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) regarding its Wastewater Treatment Plant and associated spills. After acknowledging these issues, the Town negotiated with DEQ and reached a proposed Consent Order, which includes a reduced civil fine and a Supplemental Environmental Project. This Consent Order will be open for public comment starting July 1, 2024. If there are no changes required after this period, DEQ will finalize the order, making it binding. The Town Council reviewed and approved the Consent Order in a closed meeting on June 5, 2024, and authorized either the Mayor or Town Manager to sign it. They will not comment on the Consent Order’s terms until it is officially released for public comment. For further details, links to relevant documents are provided below.
