Robert Johnson – Civilian Chief of Staff

Robert Johnson joined the Colonial Beach Police Department in May 2025 as the department’s Accreditation Manager, a role in which he was entrusted with maintaining and organizing all accreditation-related files, ensuring compliance with professional standards, and keeping department personnel informed of updates, best practices, and changes to the accreditation process. His meticulous attention to detail, dedication to compliance, and thorough understanding of law enforcement standards quickly established him as a critical resource for the department.

In recognition of his leadership, organizational skills, and broad experience, Robert was promoted in January 2026 to the position of Civilian Chief of Staff. In this senior administrative role, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the department, coordinates departmental initiatives, and advises the Chief of Police on operational, strategic, and organizational matters. Robert’s work ensures the smooth functioning of the department while supporting its mission to provide professional, effective, and community-focused law enforcement services.

Prior to joining Colonial Beach, Robert enjoyed a distinguished career with the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) in Washington, D.C. During his tenure with MPD, he served in multiple specialized assignments, including:

  • Auto Theft Investigator, where he conducted in-depth investigations into vehicle thefts and related criminal activity.
  • Crime Scene Technician, providing expertise in evidence collection, forensic analysis, and crime scene documentation.
  • Master Patrol Officer in the First District, overseeing patrol operations, mentoring officers, and ensuring adherence to department policies and procedures.

Before his law enforcement career, Robert served with distinction in the United States Navy, where he spent the majority of his career assigned to Marine units as a Hospital Corpsman, providing medical support and care to service members in challenging operational environments. Later, he transitioned to the Submarine Service, where he served aboard two Trident-class submarines, gaining valuable experience in teamwork, leadership, and operational readiness under high-pressure conditions. His military service instilled in him a strong sense of discipline, commitment to service, and leadership—qualities he continues to bring to his work with the Colonial Beach Police Department.

Robert Johnson’s extensive background in both military service and law enforcement equips him with a unique perspective on leadership, operational management, and organizational excellence. His contributions have strengthened the department’s administrative capabilities, improved internal processes, and reinforced a culture of professionalism and accountability.

The Colonial Beach Police Department is proud to have Robert Johnson as a cornerstone of its leadership team. His experience, knowledge, and dedication to public service continue to enhance the department’s ability to deliver high-quality policing services while fostering trust, safety, and collaboration within the community.
